The following section contains the collected quotes from Satguru Sirio Ji and earlier Masters of Surat Shabd Yoga.
“The instinct of love cannot come into play unless one sees the beloved. As long as we do not see God or the glory of God, we cannot have any faith in the existence of God and without this all prayers go in vain. But Guru or God-Man is the abode of God’s Light and is a radiating center of the same. We can pray with equal efficacy to the Master, who is at one with God. Connected as He is with the power-house behind Him, the Master is equally competent to grant our desires and fulfill our wishes.”
“We should always first weigh our words and then bring them out. The wise people have always said that before speaking anything first you should look in your mind, look in your within and see what effect that will have on the other person.”
„If we want our life to be intense, to be meaningful then we have to inhibit the mind to take us away all the time in the past and in the future and just stay there where we are completely focused on what we are doing. Master Kirpal used to say, “Do one thing at a time, wholly and solely, completely there!” This is something that we should try to do always whatever we are doing in life, but even so much more when we sit to meditate.”
“We do not know the depth of this ocean of life. We do not know about its length or breadth. And there are so many waves that are being created in this ocean – the waves of lust, anger, greed, attachment, and egoism. Somewhere there are the waves of backbiting and criticism, and all the other negativities. We do not know how long we have been drowning in this ocean; we do riot know how to cross over this ocean or swim in it. If we meet with someone who knows how to swim across this ocean, and if He helps us, if He teaches us how to deal with these waves, only then can we cross over and be liberated from this ocean.
The perfect Masters are aware of the waves this ocean has. They save us from these waves and They take us across. Perfect Masters come into this world carrying the ship of Naam, and those who sit in Their ship of Naam, They easily take them across.”
“If we will not think ill of anyone, our love would be universal. When we forgive the guilty and not wish ill of him, we will have no enemy. A forgiving person is always happy. It is impossible to describe the happiness, calmness of mind and peace which results from forgiveness.”
“Once we are on the Path we are definitely going back home. Everything we do as a spiritual practice, as a lifestyle, it has this purpose: to take us from the finite to the Infinite. To take us from this life, from duality, to Oneness, to pass from the duality of separation and return to a state of union with our Origin.”
“See Him present in every experience and remember He is always with you, ready to assist whenever you turn your thoughts to Him.”
„Both the good and bad things are in our within and we have to choose which path we will follow. It is up to us whether to go on the path of goodness or to adopt the path of badness. Many people have spoiled their habits; it is just a matter of habit. Otherwise truth is not far from us, truth is within us just as the other things are. People have spoiled their habits and that is why just for unnecessary things they start giving up the truth and they start lying, criticizing and they don’t consider whether it is good for them or bad for them. They don’t look within themselves to see how it is affecting them. It is up to us; we choose what we want to do. We should always remember our goal and if we want to achieve our goal, we should always remain stuck to the truth.”
“We must constantly remember that our aim is God, and we must not be concerned with anything that makes us forget Him.”
“Each moment has a peculiarity on its own. The important thing is to try to understand the basic important peculiar need of that moment which we are living. That’s the way of going deep into life, the way to go deep into what’s happening now by understanding which is the energy of that moment. So we will always understand what’s the special need of that moment according to the situation that comes up.”
“How do we improve? We improve by becoming aware of, by wanting to change those aspects of ourselves which we don’t like and by taking steps: finding helping factors that help us improve in that direction we want to go.”
“The sign of the spiritual growth when we become aware that I don’t want to be this way anymore, I want to change and improve and be a better human being and we make conscious efforts to improve our life, our character, who we are.”
“It is by working on the moment to moment situations that we can improve our future.”
“The sign of a spiritual growth is that you are able to accept life exactly as it is, as it happens.”
“According to the evolutionary level in which we are, we need to go through different kind of experiences. That’s why we come into this world and we find ourselves in situation by which we are compelled to act in a certain direction, in a certain way. So, anybody from the Holy person to the most terrible criminal of this planet, they all have a destiny that compels them to live what they have to live in this life. Consequently, we are born in that situation, in that family, in that country, in that religion, which is going to shape our psyche exactly in the way it’s meant to be, so we can go through those specific experiences.”
“It’s fine to have what we need to live, but we should try to lead a dignified life in which we are capable of making a living, capable of taking care of ourselves, and maybe, if possible, we should try to help others. But we should not live with no other purpose than to gather belongings, because it becomes such an addiction, such an attachment, that even when we leave the body, we won’t be able to think about anything else. We will be so attached to all of it that we won’t be able to escape the sphere of this material world, and we will whirl around here like ghosts. It’s not a joke, it’s not a play, and it’s not an invention—that’s how it goes.
In order to be able to leave this material world even when we leave the body, it is very necessary to be detached from it all. “
“You must silence your thoughts during meditation. The silencing of the intellect is the last nail in the coffin. You should not wish to have one thing or another. Simply sit at the door and wait. The sublime silence is best and easily achieved by lovingly and humbly reposing in the gracious Master-Power to grant and bless whatever is deemed fit.”
“The love of the Master for you is boundless. The path is difficult, but He is always with you to guide you.”
“I will advise you that you should start doing your meditation as the wrestlers start doing their work when they go into the ring to fight or wrestle with another wrestler. At that time, neither of them is thinking about their defeat. They both have hope, and they both want to become successful. That is why they apply their full force, and with all their concentration they do their work. Success or defeat is something which comes later on, but in the beginning they both have the same enthusiasm, and they both are trying their best to defeat each other. In the same way, when you sit for meditation you should not be discouraged, you should never think that you will not become successful. Like the wrestlers, you should also have hope and you should also be enthusiastic. You should apply your full force in doing your meditation. At our Eye Center, which is our ring where we have to fight with our mind, we should apply our full force, and we should put all our concentration in fighting with him.”
“The process of meditation is one of trying to go back to this Primal Source of Light. We try to invert from outside to inside. We try to disconnect our consciousness from everything external, even from the body. We try to be fully focused.”
