The following section contains the collected quotes from Satguru Sirio Ji and earlier Masters of Surat Shabd Yoga.
“When the Divine Light manifests within, then we are pulled into a state of Supreme bliss, our Supreme peace. And this is what we need. This is what we want. This is what we would like to achieve. So this is what we would like, to be free from any anxieties, from any worries, for any fear. To just be at peace, no torments from the mind. So this piece, we have to work for. Sometimes it’s given to us as a gift, as a blessing, a matter of grace, but most of the time we have to work for it. So, I suppose this is a reason why we go to a retreat because we want to get this peace, to step into a state of peace, love, and joy.”
“Try to understand what’s useful and what’s useless. What’s useful? Your peace of mind. Your inner satisfaction, which comes from the bliss, which is already inside of you. We are actually blissful beings if we are deprived, separated from mind and thoughts, which create emotions and sensations, that give us trouble. Without this, we are just at peace. With this, we are in trouble.”
“Satguru through initiation plants a beautiful fragrant tree within us. And we have to make this tree grow and become a wonderful fragrant tree. And the Master helps us to make it grow by giving us Satsang, by giving us Darshan, by meditating with us, by making us sing the Bhajans, by making us learn the Bhajans. So this is a banquet that the Master provides for us for our growth. So if you don’t don’t use it, then we are the careless, unworthy children of the Master. Because all of these that the Master provides to us, it’s very precious. He has worked so much to gather all of these and then distribute them to us. Distribute it to those who are yearning for it.”
“So there is an outer wind, which we all know, that blows things away. That moves everything. It is one of the elements by which everything is made. But there is also an inner wind that makes us fly within. So when we withdraw from this physical body and we cross the Tenth Gate and go into the Light, then there is a kind of wind, which is a very powerful wind. It’s a very powerful force that according to the experience we have to get may push us anywhere in the Universe, anywhere in the Inner Planes. So, by what do we fly once we withdraw from the physical body? We fly blown up, pushed, and propelled by this Naam Power, Sadhguru Power. Our God-into-expression power. And that’s a wonderful experience because it doesn’t undergo the force of gravity. And it’s not limited in space or in time. So if we get the blessing of stepping out of this body and going through the Tenth Door, going through the Third Eye, and stepping to the beyond, then anything may happen there. But everything that happens is always full of love. It’s saturated with love, bliss, and ecstasy. With wonder and amazement. So we shouldn’t be afraid of stepping out of this body. We shouldn’t be afraid of leaving this body because this body is a cage that imprisons us. And out of this cage, we are like a bird flying in the open space. So this is what we should pray for. This is what we should wish for. This is what we should do the practice for. And this is why we should, every day, do our practice so that we may show to this Supreme Sadhguru that we are really hungry for this. We want it with all our being. This Supreme Satguru will not take us into consideration unless we really show through our disciplinary practice, and discipline life that we really want it. Because it is a very precious something. It is the most precious thing in all manifestation, in all the universe. It is the Divinity.”
“Let’s share with everyone the best of ourselves. Thus, we will be loved by all. So, the effect of all the spiritual practice we do, the effect of following the Path and trying to apply the teachings into your life is meant to make us good people. Inner experiences, teachings, singing of holly songs, all the practice we do. In a nutshell, they’re meant to make us good, positive people, optimistic people, which is a contrary of being bad people, negative, pessimist. So, we don’t want to be this kind of people to always see everything as dark and black. We want to be people who concentrate on the shining side of life. Because as we think, so we become. So, the objective reality with which we connect, it’s a reflection of our subjective reality. So, we can say life is bad. The world is bad. People are bad. We attract into our life what corresponds to us according to the law of affinity. Therefore, we should do our best to always see the good side of everything. This will make us happy people, joyful people, loving people. And consequently, those with whom we relate, they will, correspond to us in the same way. And if somebody doesn’t, we don’t care. It doesn’t matter.”
“When we sit in meditation, we want to see something which, we can’t see with the physical eyes, within another eye in order to see the Divine Light. And this is the Third Eye, the Inner Eye, the Mystical Eye. It’s the eye of the attention. And when this Third Eye opens, it’s like opening a gate in a dam. You are flooded with water in that case and here you are flooded with Light. Because that’s our condition. We are closed up in a cage. And to transcend, to go beyond, open, and get free of this cage, we need to open a door, which the Master is also called the 10th door. This door is located in the middle of our forehead. This is what in yoga they call Ajna Chakra. In Ayurveda, they call it Sthapani Marma. And, it is the door that gives us access to the beyond, what lies beyond the body and the mind. To open this door, we need to be well-focused, well-concentrated, and steadily look in the center. Master Kirpal used to say if you can keep staring in the center for just a few minutes, then this Inner Door will open, and the Light will manifest. But in these few minutes, we must maintain full focus and complete silence of the mind.”
“The longing, the wish of a real seeker of Truth it’s always that of annihilating himself in the flames of Naam, in the divine light of God. If you are on the Path, that’s what we are looking for. To become one with the Absolute, to become one with the source of life. And to become one with this infinite being, we must broaden our being. That means we have to expand our consciousness. And at the moment our consciousness is locked up in this cage of the human body, this physical form. So we want to transcend this physical consciousness and access the expanded consciousness. We can say the cosmic consciousness. It seems a big word, but that’s what we have to do. Of course, we can do it only by the grace of Satguru and Satpurush, the Supreme Being. But we have to make ourselves available, fully available. Therefore, when we sit in meditation, we try to sit with with a longing heart, and we pray to our Supreme Satguru to please be kind, and merciful. By myself, I don’t succeed — no way that I succeed, but I’m here at your feet. I’m here at your door, at this tenth door, so please bless me.”
“When you want to go to the Truth, the Truth will make you naked. You have to get rid of all of your concepts, all your ideas, all your beliefs. At least that’s what my experience is on the Path.”
“Once you experience that death doesn’t exist, the fear of death is gone forever. You may live and you may die, it doesn’t matter.”
“Once you experience that death doesn’t exist, the fear of death is gone forever. You may live and you may die, it doesn’t matter.”
“That’s what makes us complete human beings. Experiencing ourselves as having a body, experiencing ourselves as having a psyche, a mind, and experiencing ourselves as pure consciousness, completely free from body and mind.”
„Eventually everything turns into dust. From the dust he comes and to the dust he returns. That means from nowhere it comes and to Nowhere it returns. Because that’s our origin, the Nowhere it’s our Origin. The Nowhere, which is also everywhere. Paradox, a life it’s a paradox. Everything exists and doesn’t exist at the same time. Everything is real and it’s unreal at the same time. Whatever is there in time and space, the only thing which is always real, which always existed, exist now and ever will exist, is the Timeless, the Truth.”
„So, this is the best advice you can give to anyone: first, realize yourself for what you are, and then realize the Overself. This is the purpose for which we come into this world.”
„I will say it about my Masters, there was nobody as good as they were to me, because they really taught me good things. So what do they teach me? They taught me to give priority above everything else to self realization and God realization.”
„And I will say, all the satsangis, the good satsangis, the real satsangis they will say the same: that there is no donor equal to the Guru in this world.”
“So thats the way. That’s the way to be a real good man
Somebody who sticks to his conventions to his main choices in life…. So let’s try to be stable people. People who make choices and stick to them till you die. We want to be rocks not dry leaves that are carried by any wind.”
“I am an honest person. I am somebody who clings to the precious things of life and to the relations in which I put myself. So when I choose somebody to be my Master he will be my Master forever. It doesn’t matter what happens it doesnt matter the tests, the difficulties, the problems. I have chosen this person as my master and he will be my Master forever.”
“When we have a real spiritual experience that deeply touches us in which we really see reality that means we really disengage ourselves from our body. That’s the time in which we really experience this incredible joy. The joy of understanding eventually what’s the purpose of life, what’s our purpose, who we are. What we are. Which is the goal. That’s what gives the real joy.”
“So when does a man really experience the real joy, the real happiness, the real fulfillment? When one transcends this physical body. That’s the only way, the only time in which we may experience that incredible joy of understanding eventually what we are.”
“When we sit in meditation, we are told to relax our body, give up any tension, and relax and be at peace. Then we are told that we have to still the mind. We have to silence the mind, which goes on all the time with his running commentaries about everything. And we have to activate our attention, our Surat, by well focusing it in the middle of what we see in front of our forehead. We have to forget everything where we are, our body and its activities, and withdraw, withdraw from everything. Practically, we shut the doors of sensory perception. Close our eyes, we don’t see. We try not to be disturbed by noises, so we try not to hear. We don’t speak. We don’t smell. We don’t taste, we don’t touch. These are how we connect with the outer world, so we shut them all down. But then it’s essential to be awake. Master Kirpal always said, to do your meditation when you are fully awake and conscious. This is a problem for most of the meditators. At some point, we may fall asleep. So we are not meditating. We are sleeping. So how to avoid it? There are helpful tips, and I give you some. You can move your head left, or right, or turn it clockwise, unclockwise. From time to time take a big breath. It’s like somebody shakes you. The other thing is the hands. Hands should never be together because if you keep them together, they become warm and induce sleep. So they are to be always separated, one on one leg, one on the other leg. They can be turned downwards or they can be turned upwards, better upwards. And if anyway you tend to fall asleep then you can just raise them. Don’t keep them on your body, on your legs, but raise them a bit. Another helpful tip is to keep your mouth open a little bit. Because you very well know, when you are looking at something which you really like, by which you are enchanted, your mouth opens naturally. So also when we meditate, it’s good to keep our mouth a bit open. So we need goodwill. We need to be acting. We have to find our way, whichever works better for us.”
