The following section contains the collected quotes from Satguru Sirio Ji and earlier Masters of Surat Shabd Yoga.
“You are all fortunate, because you have got the man body, the highest in all creation, which is next to God. The highest aim in the man body is to know Self and to know God. The ultimate goal of all knowledge is the knowledge of the Self. The Upanishads ask us. What is that by knowing which everything else is known? For that, God makes an arrangement to bring those who have got a real yearning to search for this ideal, in contact somewhere where they can be put on the way back to God, which is within you.”
“You are advised to draw a thick curtain over the past and just forget everything which has since passed as no amount of repentance or resentment can do it. You must start a new pattern of life.”
“Regularity, earnestness and accuracy coupled with inner longing and yearnings are the helping factors, which bring one closer to the Master within.”
“All the Saints have said that if there is any true temple, if there is any true mosque, or any true abode where God Almighty resides, it is our human body. Because God does not reside anywhere outside, He is residing within us. So that is why Farid says that all the bad thoughts and the other worldly things which we have in our body are like the dirt. So you should wake up in the morning and using the broom of Simran which your Master has graciously given to you, remove all the thoughts, remove all the dirt of this world from your within and make it clean. Just as we clean the temple or holy place where we worship God, in the same way, God Almighty is within us. So we must remove all the worldly thoughts, all the bad things from our within and clean it with the Simran. That Beloved Who is within you is always awake, so you should also wake up early in the morning. “
“The practice of Simran begins with the repetition of the Master’s objective Names slowly with a mental poise. At first the practice is objective, but in time it becomes subjective. Then the constant thought of the Lord continues without cessation. Once this starts, the remembrance becomes automatic, continuous and constant and one never forgets the Lord.”
“Only if we turn within and work on ourselves can we really be transformed from ordinary human beings into very special human beings. That’s the process – it is within us. It is inside of ourselves that our problems exist, and it’s inside of ourselves that we find a solution.”
“With a sincere heart, with a brave attitude we sit down in meditation and try to switch off this mind. If there is a device working and we switch it off, it stops working! The same thing we should do with our mind, switch it off by activating the Surat or the attention. If we are able to fully focus our Surat, our attention at the Tenth Door and keep staring there with perseverance continuously then the mind will smooth down, will quite down. If you are able to keep your attention well focus like this and at the same time we are repeating the Simran, then the inner vision will open!”
„The more Satsangies are bond to the Master, the more they are able to face any possible difficulties of life with a smile on their face, without being shocked by any event. So, it’s not so much not having problems or chances of fear, it’s the way we react to any given situation that’s important!”
“If we have had the perseverance to go on the Path and win all the battles with the mind, the senses and all of our imperfections and weaknesses, it’s all due to God’s grace and Satguru’s grace!”
“A real seeker of Truth wants to withdraw from everything which is outer, be well focused, concentrated, keep calling on Him by repeating His Holly names. Withdraw altogether from this physical body, switch off completely the mind, transcend and going to the Beyond. That is the process of learning to die while alive.”
“Many times I have said that it is worse to surrender than to be actually defeated. So don’t surrender to your mind. Don’t be disappointed. Don’t be disheartened. Continue your struggle with the mind and keep attacking your mind with the Simran.
It is not a new thing that we are having this problem of the thoughts. For many ages before we came in this birth, in all our previous births, we had this problem of the thoughts. All the fantasies, all the thoughts which we are having, have brought us into this world again and again. This is one type of simran, and because we are in the habit of doing the worldly simran that is why the Masters have given us Their Simran which will cut the simran which we are doing right now – because only the Simran [of the Masters] will help us to remove the habit of doing the worldly simran, and only the contemplation of the Master will help us to remove the contemplation of the worldly things.”
“Our spiritual practice of singing bhajans is always meant to provoke an expansion of consciousness, to make our Surat sharp, conscious, aware, because it’s in the deep awareness that we find the Truth. That is the purpose of our singing bhajans.”
“The persons who are yearning to realize God, and those who have real intense longing to see Him, they will never have any doubts or suspicions. They want only to realize God and they ask to be shown the Path and that’s all; and after that they don’t have any doubts.”
“Most fortunate are those who get a link within at the Tenth Door of the Light and Sound of God, to be developed from day to day. The huge mass of humanity is groping in the dark in feelings, emotions and inferences and is not prepared to receive this rare gift. The Master working overhead is aware of all that occurs within the initiates and He continues to work for their benefit.”
“It is the mind’s habit to distract us from meditation. He will bring either sleep or pain. Our work is to defeat the enemy either by making friends with him or by doing anything to stop him. Our struggle is with a great enemy. This is our battle. Try not to surrender to him, but to win over him. The hard struggle is only for a few days; after that you will start getting strength from the Satguru Power within.”
“Regularity, combined with intrepidity and a tireless seva (service performed without economic interest or ego), are the main factors to practice the spiritual discipline.”
“The basic principle of a highly serene life is to accept the divine dispensation with cheer as it is chiefly based on the reactions of our own actions and is invariably flavored with mercy for our eventual betterment. A disciplined devotee should view everything from a highly elevated viewpoint and accept life without any regret or remorse.”
“It is for you to remain devoted to Him, and keep His commandments. The rest is for Him to do.”
“If we are able to completely relax, be at peace, and completely focus our attention, then we may experience ourselves withdrawing from the physical body and rising above it. At the very least, we will experience a state of very deep peace, or deep well-being.”
“To meet God, to realize God and to do the devotion of God, we need to make our hearts as big as a mountain. Many storms come, but that mountain does not move from its place; the storms come and go, but the mountain is still there. In the same way, we need to make our heart that big.”
